Cape Hatteras Light is a lighthouse located on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It stands on Cape Hatteras near Buxton. This is the tallest lighthouse in the United States and the largest brick lighthouse in the world. The Atlantic Ocean area opposite Cape Hatteras has extremely challenging nautical conditions due to shoals, variable streams, and gale-force winds. The cold Labrador Current and the Gulf Stream collide here. The area is called the "graveyard of the Atlantic" because of the thousands of shipwrecks in the area.
